10/10 Bouchercon is the biggest mystery convention in the world, and it lived up to the hype.

I met a few hundred fans, spent time with dozens of authors, did two panels, and auctioned off a character name in an upcoming novel for chairty, getting $750. Not bad for an unknown guy whose first book just came out.

Next year its in Chicago. I hope my liver recovers by then.

The premise? Dozens of famous horror writers have contributed stories under 500 words. This is a collection for the ADHD generation, or a bathroom reader for those who eat a lot of Mexican food. Lots of fast, funny, and scary stories in here, including three good ones from me.

7/16 Cover Art for Bloody Mary

I just received the cover art for the second book in the Jack Daniels series, Bloody Mary.

When some extra body parts begin turning up at Cook County Morgue, Jack realizes that Chicago has another serial killer stalking the streets... and it's someone Jack knows.

To compound matters, Jack's mother moves in--much to the annoyance of Jack's boyfriend, Jack's ex-husband comes back, Jack's partner has a mid-life crisis, and Jack becomes involved in the Trial of the Century.

And, of course, Harry McGlade is back, determined to get Jack to sign away the rights to her life for his new TV series.

Funnier. Scarier. And in this one, not everyone gets out alive...

7/15 Writer's Digest
I've done a follow-up to my "After the Big Sale" article called "After the Book is Pubished." It's another journal-style piece that picks up where the previous article left off.

5/13 Whiskey Sour named Book Sense Pick for June
Book Sense is the American Booksellers Association's print and web publication. Being a Book Sense pick is a tremendous honor, and I'm thrilled to get this kind of exposure. According to the June flyer:

"Lieutenant Jack Daniels is a welcome addition to the group of female crime busters. The plot is well driven and, while the villain is chillingly horrific, the book has humor and witty dialog."-- Holly Frakes, Schuler Books and Music.

5/06 Hardcover and Audio
Today I held the hardcover of Whiskey Sour in my hands for the first time, and I was bowled over with emotion. It's been such a long, hard journey to reach this point, but it's a journey I'd make again without hesitation.

The book is gorgeous-looking; embossed color cover, blurbs all over, great design. I can't thank Hyperion enough for the wonderful job they've done.

Brilliance Audio has also done a terrific job, and has released the novel on CD, cassette, and in MP3 format. The packaging is beautiful, and they've included a bonus JA Konrath short story, read by yours truly, as an extra after the novel ends.

4/14 Trouble is What I Do
I grew up reading books about Detroit PI Ben Perkins (my favorite is Hell's Only Half Full). I'm fortunate enough to be friends with the author of the Ben Perkins series, Rob Kantner, and when he put together a collection of Perkins short stories, I begged him to write the intro.

This collection, called Trouble is What I Do, will be coming soon from Point Blank Press, with an introduction by yours truly. More info as it comes in.

4/12 Cemetery Dance Magazine #48
Not only does it feature my horror story Forgiveness, but it also has a wonderful review of my upcoming novel Whiskey Sour.

It's available in bookstores, and online. Get your own copy today!

4/9- World Horror Convention
4/11 Last year, I entered the infamous Gross Out Contest (where you read a disgusting short story before a cadre of very opinionated fans), and was unceremoniously booed offstage. It was all in good fun, but I must admit I've been nursing embers for the past 12 months.

This year, I went in with all guns blazing, determined to win the damn thing. And I did. Here's a picture of the coveted award, Raven the Nodding Goth Girl.

I'd like to thank the judges; the extreme writing trio of Ed Lee, John Pelan, and Michael Slade, and the insane, inebriated horror fans who embraced my revolting reading with love.

If you'd like to take a look at my winning story, you're out of luck. The only copy was unfortunately lost in a tragic ballooning accident. But take my (and the audience's) word for it; it was pretty gross.

4/6 The Many Faces of Van Helsing
My story, The Screaming, is the first in the collection, and has already gotten some nice reviews (Barnes and Noble call my contribution "blood-curdling").

Run, don't walk, to your local bookstore and pick up a copy, or grab one online here.

4/1 Kirkus Reviews Whiskey Sour
The folks at Kirkus have reviewed me, calling Whiskey Sour "A rapid-fire debut thriller" and Jack Daniels a "savvy heroine." You can read the review on the Barnes and Noble website (www.bn.com) and doing a search on "J.A. Konrath."

3/3 Short Story Sale
I sold a nasty little horror tale called The Bag to the print anthology Cold Flesh, being released as a mass market paperback from Hellbound Books at the end of the year.

2/16 AudioFile Magazine
The fine folks at the fine print publication AudioFile Magazine got wind of my trip to Brilliance Audio and asked if they could do an article on it in an upcoming issue.

How could I refuse? You can see the blurbhere.

2/6-8 Love is Murder Mystery Convention
This was one heck of a conference. I appeared on eight panels, had a chance to conduct live interviews with Warren B. Murphy, F. Paul Wilson, Robert W. Walker, David Wiltse, and David Morrell, and moderated discussions with Walter Mosley, Barb D'Amato, David Ellis, Barry Eisler, Libby Fischer Hellmann, William Kent Krueger, and P.J. Parrish, among others.

Lots of work and lots of fun. I made new friends, touched base with some old ones, and gave out a ton of free stuff. When I get some free time, I'll add some pictures to the website.

I'll be there next year, and I hope to see you there. For more info, go to www.loveismurder.com.
